What really matters in the end: factors influencing income concentration among students
EUROSTUDENT surveys have long shown that the distribution and concentration of student income vary considerably across countries. Little is known, however, about the reasons why the gap between ‘rich’ and ‘poor’ within a student population is very wide in some countries and relatively narrow in others. At the next EUROSTUDENT Talks on September 17, Christoph Gwosć (DZHW) and Hendrik Schirmer (Leuphana University of Lüneburg) will present findings from their recent analysis based on pooled data from three rounds of the EUROSTUDENT survey. Using simple linear and LASSO regression analyses, they have examined the influence of a range of variables covering finances, socio-demographics, mode of study, and lifestyle on the concentration of student income. Surprisingly, only one variable showed a higher explanatory power in the end. Join us to discover which factor really matters when it comes to income concentration among students.
